I’ve always been facinated with murder mysteries, even as a child, and I’ve always loved stories along the vein of “And Then There Were None” by Agatha Christie. I’ve also been drawn to stories based in a “small town with a dark past” sort of vibe to them. I’ve based Drowned Harbor, ME in this same world.
I neglected to realize the amount of work involved in a project such as this. Each logo in itself took hours upon hours to perfect, and even then some were never completed 100%. The badges alone took weeks to get where I wanted them. I did try to incorporate inspiration from various eras in design, and illustrate how some of the stores etc. have been in the town for different periods of time, and how that would reflect on their branding and image.
There will be more added to this on a regular basis including a full map and possible supporting animations and backstory.
The collection is available as a free desktop wallpack (2560×1600, also usable for mobile) and you can grab the wallpack via a Facebook post or Tweet here:
At the Chopping Block we do lots of projects that require planning and months of production and design revisions. It was nice for once to just type design a logo for an old friend’s start-up. After months of kicking around various ideas, doing this job has inspired me to take a similar approach to designing my wedding invites in a similar fashion.
