Exhibitions

I recently took part in two separate exhibitions and created a piece for each of them. Exhibitions always seem to be a refreshing step away from commercial work and a good chance to finally create some ideas that have taken a back seat. Both prints are available for purchase here.

The first was the Illustrator Australia A3 exhibition held in Sydney and Melbourne.
There was some really nice works on show. Check them all out here.

At the time I had a David Bowie week, hence the reference.
What if Major Tom was a monkey?

The second was the Look See 2010 Exhibition held in Newcastle.
Some really well respected illustrators on display, so it was humbling to be invited to participate.

I’ve always liked the idea of collective nouns. Murder of crows is the first off an inevitable series.

The night the exhibition was packed up, the gallery was broken in to. Murder of Crows was one of the selected works that took a walk……….which is ironically kinda cool.
Hopefully it found a good home.

I hate sushi – tee design

I’ve been away from BSV for a while. I’ve been busy with various things (not all realated to design, for example I just moved to a new home :) ), now in these last days I found time to follow some personal projects too, like this tee design being scored on lafraise.com (please vote it here, thanks!) . Please check inside the post to see details and a tee mockup ^_^.

About the octopus character: I made this design (with different details, a banner, sakura flowers…) as a sketch for a client t-shirt months ago, but was rejected. I thought it deserves more credit by the way, so I used it for a personal project :P . Never waist anything!

Metropolis: A Tiger Translate project

.

.

.

My interpretation of “Metropolis” for Tiger Translate project which forms half of a cityscape scene joining with another illustration (on the right side). More details on this project later …

Background: Conceived in 2006 by Asia’s leading beer, Tiger Translate has been working with creative industry pioneers to uncover the best emerging Asian Artists forming a collective known as Tiger AKA’s (Asian Kinetic Artists).

Go To Sleep Citizen

This will be one of the core wallpapers in my upcoming wall pack. I’m surprised that with my love of birds I haven’t created more illustrations with them.
Bird based on a Scarlet Tanager, with some obvious revisions. Testing out a few new techniques, not one gradient used in the whole design.
Print available at ArtsProjekt.
Skateboard also available at ArtsProjekt.

More details at Behance.

Scampd

I was recently lucky enough to create the logo for new illustration portal “Scampd“.

As many of you already know scamps are the rough sketches supplied by an agency at the start of an illustration assignment. This was the basis for the logo, to show the transition from rough sketch to finished art.

Scampd exists to celebrate the rich, diverse, and criminally underused art of illustration in advertising and design. Scampd is currently looking for contributers so make sure you drop past http://scampd.com

Leaf Cafe Exhibition

.

Client: Fallout Factory
Project: Leaf Cafe | Artwork Exhibition

A part of the Liverpool Sound City event – organised by the Arts group – Fallout Factory | hosted by Leaf Cafe. This Illustration (A reworking of an old piece) is a good example of my blend of character and landscape illustrations. “Chocolate Bear City” is about a Giant bear’s curiosity and playfulness, but because of it’s size, causes destruction and mayhem.
