ORIGINAL ART TOY PROJECT

This is the original custom toy I designed. I have laser cut/engrave many different bamboo materials and a little bit of acrylic board then I hand assembled all the parts to create 3D object. I hand colored, stained and sanded. I made total of 4 bodies for now. I am really happy with the result. Because of the natural material, (Bamboo is also very ecological material by the way,) and I finish each piece by hand, there is nice personality to each of these. more info here.

And now to introduce my self…

My name is Chris Metcalfe. I am a long time visiter to this blog. It is a great inspiration to my work. I am super stoked to be able to contribute. Go check out my stuff at metcalfe.tumblr.com. I currently am the design manager at Skullcandy in Park City. So come to me with all of your headphone needs… if you have something good to trade. ha ha.

This first post is a design exercise I like to do. I find a quote I like and then illustrate it. Pretty easy.

Exhibition: B.O.T.S | Tea Time
Product: Pork Chop T-shirt

This T-shirt design was created for the ‘Brothers of the Stripe‘ exhibition – Tea Time | Manchester. Soup Kitchen. I decided to create a body of work which was based on this topic of food, focusing on the idea of consumption – meat and animals – This in turn developed in to something called the ‘Pork Pirates’ (or Pork Pie-rates)…Using my isometric style, this poor little isometric ‘Pork Chop’ pig was dissected and now available for purchase.

Collective: Brothers of the Stripe
Project: Tea Time exhibition

A collection of work created for the Brothers of the Stripe exhibition – Tea Time | Manchester. Soup Kitchen (an exhibition exploring the concept of Tea Time through a variety of illustrative styles and techniques). I decided to create a body of work which was based on this topic of food, focusing on the idea of consumption – meat and animals – This in turn developed in to something called the ‘Pork Pirates’ (or Pork Pie-rates) …and due to my macbook passing away half-way through the project, it forced me or allowed me to experiment with a more diverse range of mediums – including stencils and spray paints and photography – which is the resulting A5 print packs – each print digitally printed with added hand finished details.
